We are delighted to announce that BraziLAB is the winner of the inaugural "GovTech Awards", acclaimed by a jury of international experts brought together by PUBLIC, with the trophy to be presented during a ceremony at The GovTech Summit 2022, in The Hague, Netherlands. The award aims to celebrate the global innovation ecosystem in GovTech, highlighting the most dynamic and fruitful projects in the field. This edition had 64 entries from entities of 17 different countries and three were selected for the last phase: BrazilLAB, the Govtech LATAM (organized by BID, IDB Lab, and IE PublicTech Lab), and the GovTech Lab Lithuania.
BrazilLAB was the winning organization, recognized for its Excellence in Support of GovTech Innovation. Its mission to restore trust in the public sector, by promoting the agenda of innovation and digital transformation in government from the civil society with its GovTech Startup Acceleration Program, impressed the judges for being clear, objective, and functional, especially for having remained intact even in the context of changes in public leadership.
According to Fil Lekkas, Head of International Growth and Ventures Strategy at PUBLIC and one of the Jury members for this edition: “GovTech is on the march. Our GovTech Awards finalists illustrate the sector’s growing scale and diversity, varying in their regions of activity, organizational forms, and approaches to catalyzing GovTech innovation. They demonstrate the formidable innovative capacity of the public and third sector and show that there’s no “one size fits all” in supporting GovTech ecosystems. The Jury was impressed not only by BrazilLab’s ability to serve as a trusted intermediary between the public and private sector across many levels of government and domains but also their commitment to helping startups scale across Brazil.”
In the words of our CEO, Guilherme D. F. Dominguez: "Given the quality of projects that have applied for the award, as the list of finalists demonstrates, it is more than an incredible honor for us at BrazilLAB to receive this trophy. It is a tremendous validation of Letícia Piccolotto Ferreira's (our founder) vision in 2016 that guided our work from the beginning. We managed to turn this vision into reality, accelerating more than 130 companies in 6 years of existence and with technological solutions from our network running in more than 2000 municipalities in Brazil. But having this work recognized by an international jury of experts goes far beyond what we could have dreamed of! We hope this award will inspire similar projects around the world, further strengthening our GovTech initiatives in Brazil and beyond".
